Propongo este tema ya que es harto interesante, por los cubanos enfrentaron a las fuerzas sudafricanas con el t-55 ruso y los sudafricanos contaban con el Olifant version sudafricana del centurion britanico, ademas de tener la taticas de guerra sovieticas.
Sin ser un experto, ni mucho menos, hasta donde escuché los cubanos le pegaron una paliza a los Sudafricanos.
Si alguien tiene información adicional sobre esto me encantaría saberla

Interesante recuento con bastantes datos de interés militar.
En angola tambien llegaron T-62 y demostraron ser muy superiores al Olifant, Algunos Olifant fueron capturados intactos y hoy estan como trofeo de guerra en el museo de las FAR. Sobre el inicio de la guerra de angola para los que dominan el ingles recomendar el libro de Piero Gleijeses.
Actualmente estan saliendo en los medios de prensa cubanos mucho material que sean documentales y entrevistas a participantes de esta hazaña con motivo del 30 aniversario de la gesta y hasta el primer mandatario cubano ha dicho que se habriran los archivos a los historiadores para que puedan "narrar la verdadera e irrebatible historia de aquellos acontecimientos" sic, esperemos que esto ocura mas temprano que tarde...

Este fue el segundo derribo del Maj. Johann Rankin ocurriendo el 5 de Octubre 1982. El gobierno Cubano insistio en decir que este mig aterrizo en la base esa tarde. Aqui vemos que la verdad fue otra. Otro Cubano muerto.

andres, si quisieras ser mas "objetivo" pondrias tambien el derribo del Mirage F-1 a manos del Mig-23 Cubano, o nos ilustrarias tambien con los demas derribos a favor de los pilotos Cubanos, no crees?

¿Cual "derribo"? El único derribo de un Mirage F1 sudafricano registrado en dicho conflicto fue a manos de un misil tierra-aire SA-9 (F1AZ piloteado por Ed Every alcanzado el 20 de febrero de 1988 ). El "derribo" al que haces mención probablemente se refiera al engagement del 27 de septiembre de 1987 en el cual 2 cazas de la SAAF entablaron combate con una pareja de MiG23ML angoleños en el cual uno de los aviones de fabricación soviética disparó un misil R60MK contra el Mirage de matrícula 206 piloteado por el mayor Arthur Piercy, el cual estalla cerca de la tobera de escape. Sin embargo, el avión dañado pudo volver a duras penas a la base y aterrizar de emergencia. Desgraciadamente al tomar tierra y producto de los daños producidos por la detonación del misil, la aeronave se salió de la pista, partió el tren de aterrizaje y derrapó sin control; el piloto intentó eyectarse mas su paracaídas no se abrió, cayendo él junto con el asiento eyector derechito a tierra terminando con heridas graves y parálisis producto de daño severo en la espina dorsal.
A continuación posteo el recuento del mayor Piercy sobre el encuentro de ese día:
The next thing I saw was a Mig 23 flying through the formation about 300' below us. My first reaction was WOW what a great looking aircraft. This was the first time I had seen one in the flesh so to speak. When he started turning only then did I see the second Mig. I called the engagement and started turning. I was doing Mach 1.3 (about 1600 km per hour) and he was going like hell so the turn was so wide I almost lost sight of him.
This where I get a little frustrated. For 10 years I have trained for this day and the majority of the fight I cannot recall. WHY! Anyway the next thing I remember is this Mig coming head on at me from about my one, two o'clock position. Still turning towards him I remember flicking the trigger safety over to the cannon position. If he was going to fly through my sights I was going to squeeze off a few rounds. Unfortunately for me he got off the first shot.
There was a bright orange flash from his left wing and then this incredibly fast telephone pole came hurtling towards me trailing a solid white smoke trail. What more is that it was cork screwing so I was never sure where it was going.
In all our training we were taught to break towards the missile. This could or should create a tracking problem for the missile and cause it to possibly overshoot.
But faced with reality I found it took a lot of willpower to fly towards something I knew was trying to kill me. However, I kept breaking towards it and I watched it corkscrew over my right wing and disappear behind me. I thought it had missed until I heard a dull thud and felt a light bump on the aircraft. I immediately scanned all the gauges but there was not indication of any damage. When I looked up again the Mig flew over the canopy and disappeared behind me as well.
