    RAFAEL PRESENTS THE LITENING
    Airborne Navigation & Targeting Pod



    At LAAD 2007 (Latin America Aero& Defence) RAFAEL will present the LITENING Airborne Day/Night Navigation & Targeting Pod that provides precision strike capability to every fighter aircraft.

    The Litening is a multi-spectral airborne targeting and navigation pod. It is designed for target illumination to improve day and night attack capabilities using LGB and GPS guided bombs.

    The Litening system presents pilots with real-time, Forward Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) and Charge Coupled Device (CCD) imagery.

    The high sensor resolution enables pilots to reliably identify the combat targets and consequently to avoid collateral damage.

    Over 700 Litening pods are operational in many air forces around the world; among them the Israeli Air Force on the F-16I and F-16C and the US, Australian and Hungarian Air Forces.

    The Litening has also been integrated on the German Tornado and is in the process of being integrated onto the Eurofighters.

    RAFAEL PRESENTS THE RECCELITE


    At LAAD 2007 (Latin America Aero& Defence) will present the Reccelite. RecceLite is a self-contained self-cooled multi-sensor tactical reconnaissance system, consisting of an airborne pod based on the Litening Targeting and Navigation Pod and a ground exploitation station.

    The RecceLite simultaneously collects Infra-Red (IR) and Visual (VIS and near IR) digital images within a very wide field of regard, in accordance with an automatic mission plan and/or manual operation.

    The RecceLite pod is a derivative of RAFAEL's Litening navigation and targeting pod, which is in use in Air Forces worldwide.
    Together, the RecceLite and Litening provide a highly effective solution for shortening the critical sensor-to-shooter cycle.

    RAFAEL has developed the RecceLite system together with its partner Zeiss in Germany, and is marketing it worldwide.

    The System was chosen by the Spanish Air Force (SAF) for its EF-18, by the Dutch Air Force and is currently being evaluated by customers worldwide.

    The RecceLite concept is completely innovative (patent pending), and is changing the way in which reconnaissance can be carried out.
    Building upon these features and capabilities, RecceLite can perform low, medium and high altitude missions, at tactical or standoff ranges, simultaneously in IR, VIS and NIR (Near IR) wavebands, during the same mission, with a single pod, and without replacing the sensors suite. The following picture illustrates RecceLite line of sight capabilities.

    RecceLite's line of sight flexibility also allows stereo viewing in any of the operational conditions, sensors, and fields of view, generating high quality stereo due to the ability to revisit a target area after a sufficiently large aspect angle was created by the aircraft progression.

    The RecceLite pod is a derivative of RAFAEL's Litening navigation and targeting pod, which is in use in Air Forces worldwide.

    RAFAEL PRESENTS The PYTHON 5
    Full Sphere IR Air-to-Air Missile

    At LAAD 2007 (Latin America Aero& Defence) RAFAEL will present the PYTHON 5, a fifth generation air-to-air missile and the latest member of the Python family. The missile provides the pilot engaging an enemy aircraft with a revolutionary full sphere launch capability.
    Python 5 can be launched from a very short range to beyond visual range with greater probability of kill and excellent resistance to countermeasures. The missile is also offered in an air defense configuration.

    Python 5 is an innovative combination of state-of-the-art technologies and proven Python 4 components.

    The missile incorporates a new dual waveband, high off-boresight imaging seeker, advanced computer architecture, sophisticated IRCCM and flight control algorithms, while maintaining Python 4 unique aerodynamic airframe, powerful rocket motor, warhead and proximity fuze.

    Successful development and operational testing of the Python 5 missile has already ben carried out, including extensive captive carry evaluation and homing test.

    RAFAEL PRESENTS THE SPICE
    Precision Weapon Guidance Kit

    At LAAD 2007 (Latin America Aero & Defence) RAFAEL will present the SPICE Precision Weapon Guidance Kit.

    Spice is a stand-off, autonomous, air-to-ground weapon system. The weapon uses state-of-the art navigation, guidance and homing techniques to achieve accurate and effective destruction of high-value targets with pinpoint accuracy and at high attack volumes.

    Providing a fully autonomous navigation and precision-strike capability, Spice-2000 achieves a stand-off range of over 60 kilometers. Spice-1000 achieves an even greater range, due to its unique deployable wing.

    The weapon has day, night and adverse weather capabilities, based on its dual CCD / IIR seeker and advanced scene-matching algorithms. At close-in distances, Spice recognizes the target and correlates it to the intelligence images previously stored in its memory.

    As a result of this capability, Spice can overcome TLE (Target Location Error) and GPS jamming. The Spice mission profile can be set to a specific azimuth and dive angle to suit the selected target profile, such as a steep dive angle for target penetration.

    The weapon ensures accurate destruction of enemy targets from a safe distance and minimizes collateral damage.

    Both Spice-2000 and Spice-1000 are easily integrated onto a wide range of single and dual-seater fighter aircraft, and require no aircraft modifications.

    Spice achieves high serviceability with low life cycle cost. Its simple operation requires only basic aircrew training.

    "We believe that, with the Spice 1000, our ability to outfit a greater variety of aircraft, due to its low weight and greater aerodynamics will increase the number of our potential Spice customers," says Yitzhak Einbinder, Director of Air-to-Surface Systems in RAFAEL's Missile Division.

    The Spice family combines state-of-the-art scene-matching technology, high destruction rate and an efficient payload to provide an affordable and cost-effective force multiplier.

    RAFAEL PRESENTS THE SPIKE
    A Multi-Purpose Missile Family


    At LAAD 2007 (Latin America Aero& Defence) RAFAEL will present The SPIKE Family. It consists of missiles suited for several platforms, multiple ranges and a variety of targets. The missiles in this family have sophisticated electro-optic CCD or IR sensors for operation day and night and in adverse weather conditions and a tandem warhead.

    Their lofted trajectories enable the warhead to hit the target at its most vulnerable part with pinpoint precision.

    The SPIKE Family is comprised of the following missile types:
    SPIKE-MR (Gill) 2,500m for Infantry and Special Forces,
    SPIKE-LR 4,000m for Infantry, Light Combat Vehicles,
    SPIKE-ER 8,000m for Infantry, LCV, Helicopters.

    Recently the Spanish army chose the Spike LR in a contract that valued over 400 m$ that was signed by GDSBS as the prime contractor.

    The SPIKE-ER is a stand-alone anti-armor weapon system that is designed for mounting on various platforms, including helicopters, fast boats and combat vehicles. It can also be dismounted to a ground position and fitted onto a tripod. The compact system includes the SPIKE-ER missile in its canister, the Command Launch Unit (CLU), a thermal sight and the SPIKE-ER launcher.

    RAFAEL's Anti-Armor Directorate develops manufactures and markets advanced, guided missile systems for use on the modern battlefield; whether it's an open area or confined urban space.

    At present, sales of SPIKE systems amount to over a billion dollars and have been sold and are operational in many countries including Israel, The Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Romania, Finland, Singapore, Czech Republic, some South American countries and others.

    All of the SPIKE Family members have a low Life Cycle Cost, due to high reliability and operational, logistic support and production commonality between members.

    RAFAEL PRESENTS SpotLite Mk 2
    Electro-optical System for the Detection, Location, Investigation and Neutralization of Small-Arms Fire Sources

    At LAAD 2007(Latin America Aero& Defence) Rafael will present the SpotLite Mk2.

    SpotLite Mk 2 is an electro-optical system for detecting, locating, investigating and neutralizing small-arms fire sources. The system has been designed for the platoon, company and battalion level, for patrol and reconnaissance units as well as for sniper forces, for stationary situations and for combat on the move.

    The system was originally built in cooperation with an "operational client" in order to facilitate combatants to deal with enemy spotting and efficient and agile management of own forces fire with the aim of attaining fast neutralization of target without causing collateral damage. The system facilitates spotting the fire sources with a high level of precision, investigating them and relaying these targets to sniper forces or other shooters in order to swiftly and efficiently close the sensor-to-shooter circuit, all within the low tactical level.

    David Shtemer, Corporate Vice President and General Manager Missile Division emphasized that the system is the result of a joint project financed by the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the USA TSWG. RAFAEL has implemented in this system its world-class missile image processing capabilities. The system has been operational for the last two years and has been repeatedly praised by the above mentioned "operational client".

    In light of the lessons learnt from this system, SpotLite Mk 2 is smaller in size and weight, consumes less power and may be carried by two combatants. The system has undergone several tests and exercises to the full satisfaction of the TSWG and the Israel Ministry of Defense.

    The SpotLite Mk2 maintains high performance, compatible with operational requirements such as :Electro-optical Unit ( EOU ) includes a FLIR camera (Field of view: 48 x 24), a CCD camera with continuous zoom, LASER range finder, LASER pointer, GPS, light tripod, PTU ( pan and tilt unit ) and a data processing unit.
    The unit enables Spotting fire sources at 1000 meters and above ,High probability of detection and low level of false alarms and Spotting and recording of a large number of targets shooting simultaneously.

    The system allows also to Investigating of the detection point in order to incriminate it by means of automatic pan and tilt unit and performing zoom on the point and Turning the detection point into a target in an automatic and fast mode by extracting coordinates and range to the target.
