La finlandesa Surma participará en el proyecto Antártica I de ASMAR

El astillero chileno Asmar ha seleccionado a la empresa finlandesa Surma como proveedora del diseño y gestión de la compatibilidad e interferencia electromagnética (EMC/EMI) del proyecto del futuro rompehielos chileno, el Antártica I.
La relación entre Finlandia y Chile ya fue destacada en octubre pasado durante una visita de la embajadora del país europeo, Eija Rotinen, a las instalaciones del astillero de Asmar en Talcahuano. Durante un encuentro con el director del astillero, capitán de navío, Harold Kauer, la embajadora destacó el interés de su país “por ayudar a Chile a convertirse en una súper potencia marítima”.
Rotinen también tuvo unas palabras de reconocimiento hacia Asmar, ante cuyas instalaciones, capital humano y proyecto de futuro dijo estar “muy impresionada”.
Por su parte, el CEO de la empresa, Kristian Tornivaara, mostró su satisfacción por la elección de su compañía y su orgullo por “ser parte del equipo detrás de Antártica I, el cual será uno de los barcos oceanográficos más sofisticados jamás construidos”. En similares términos se expresó el director de Ingeniería de Surma, Martti Helamaa, que aseguró que la empresa está “muy emocionada de iniciar este viaje con Asmar que, sin duda, va a ser importante para el avance de la investigación oceanográfica e investigación climática en la región antártica”.
Cabe destacar que Finlandia es un país con una amplia experiencia en el sector al estar sujeta a las condiciones árticas. Así mismo, la empresa Surma, fundada en 2007, da servicios a astilleros y armadas de todo el mundo. La empresa presume de haber desarrollado “el más avanzado software de supervivencia de combate que permite ahorrar tiempo y recursos en el trabajo de análisis y diseño, además de aumentar la seguridad y el rendimiento de la misión del barco”.
La compañía se fusionó a finales del año pasado con el grupo DA, una empresa de tecnología de defensa en crecimiento que ofrece soluciones de tecnología submarina.

Surma has been chosen by ASMAR as the provider of the Electro Magnetic Compatibility and Electro Magnetic Interference (EMC/EMI) design and management of Chile’s Antartica 1 Icebreaker project.
- In the current paradigm of wireless sensors and wireless information retrieval and communication systems, the right approach to on-board signal propagation within a vessel is a crucial question to maximize the valuable time of researchers and the overall efficiency of the icebreaker. We are proud to be part of the team behind Antartica 1, which will be one of the most sophisticated oceanographic ships ever built, comments Mr. Kristian Tornivaara, CEO of Surma.
Surma will assist ASMAR throughout the multiyear project managing the EMC Working Group of Antartica 1 project. Mr. Martti Helamaa, Engineering Director of Surma and the EMC Manager of the project commented that the company is very excited to start this journey with ASMAR that, without a doubt, is going to be important for the advancement of oceanographic and climate research in the Antarctic region.
The Finnish Ambassador Met with the Leaders of ASMAR Talcahuano
The new Ambassador of Finland in Chile, Ms. Eija Rotinen, visited ASMAR’s Shipyard last October in Talcahuano. Ambassador Rotinen wanted to highlight the importance of shipbuilding industry collaboration between Finland and Chile.
Ambassador Rotinen commented during her encounter with Talcahuano shipyard’s Administrator Kauer, that this relationship is of great importance to Finland, not only to support ASMAR, but to help Chile to become a maritime super power. Ambassador Rotinen added that she was very impressed by ASMAR’s installations in Talcahuano, by the human capital devoted to the project, and by its far-reaching capabilities.
Finnish Expertise in Icebreakers
Finland, located by the Baltic Sea and subject to Arctic conditions, has a long history in building and designing icebreakers, and the country excels in the Maritime domain in various areas, be it design and construction of mission-oriented vessels, luxury cruise ships, or digitalization of ports and vessels.
Surma is Part of Finnish DA-Group
