    En momentos en que el impacto de la crisis mundial rumoreaba la inminente cancelación del programa CVF (Future Aircraft Carrier) para la Royal Navy, el pasado 16 de enero se firmó una serie de contratos por valor de 90 millones de libras para la construcción de los dos proyectados superportaaviones, la cual se inició con los trabajos en la sección de proa para el HMS Queen Elizabeth en diciembre del año pasado:

    £90m Contracts for Work on Carriers

    £90m worth of contracts have been announced for steelwork, modular cabins, galley equipment and other components for the Royal Navy's new aircraft carriers, HM Ships Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales.

    The key contracts announced today, Friday 16 January 2009, which are expected to sustain some 190 jobs nationwide at peak production, include:

    - £50m for steelwork for bow sections of the two carriers, to be carried out at Babcock's Appledore Shipyard in Devon, sustaining some 150 jobs at peak production;
    - Galley equipment, £3.4m, Kempsafe Ltd (Southampton);
    - Modular cabins and wet spaces, £23m, McGill Services Ltd, sustaining about 40 jobs at peak production (Billingham, County Durham);
    - Furniture to be installed throughout the ships, £4.4m, McGill Services Ltd;
    - Windows, £1.3m, Tex Special Projects Ltd (Ipswich);
    - Doors and hatches, £3.9m, McGeoch Marine Ltd (Inchinnan, Renfrewshire);
    - Aircraft electrical supplies equipment, £4m, Ultra Electronics PMES (Rugeley, Staffs).

    Early steelwork for the bow unit of Queen Elizabeth commenced in Appledore in December.

    After visiting Appledore Shipyard in North Devon, MOD Defence Equipment and Support's Director of Capital Ships, Tony Graham, said:

    "Walking on the prepared steel plate destined to become an internal deck on HMS Queen Elizabeth gives everyone at the shipyard a sense of expectation. We have been making progress in engineering and procurement on this programme but we can now see the reality of a ship in build.

    "Later this year we will see production start in the main shipyards, where the overall scale of the carriers will become clear. Just days into 2009, there is a real sense of excitement among the partners and confidence in the momentum behind this project."

    Geoff Searle, Programme Director of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance, on the tour of the site, said:

    "After many years of design, engineering and planning work across the whole of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance, it is fantastic to be in Appledore to see physical proof of the project moving into the next phase. It is also an excellent example of how this iconic project will involve companies in many parts of the UK, creating and sustaining thousands of jobs, like those of the 14 new apprentices taken on here in Appledore, the first for six years."

    Today's announcements form part of the £3bn manufacture contract, which was awarded by MOD to the Aircraft Carrier Alliance in July 2008.

    The Aircraft Carrier Alliance – a single integrated team formed from BVT Surface Fleet, BAE Systems Marine, Babcock, Thales UK and MOD – will deliver the carriers HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales.

    Work on the ships is expected to create or sustain 10,000 jobs in the UK at its peak.

    Ya en octubre del año pasado se había firmado un contrato por 235 millones de libras para la planta propulsora y sistemas de maniobra que se instalarán en ambas naves.

          El primero de la clase, Queen Elizabeth, toma forma. La nota de BAe Systems:

          UK Carrier build gains momentum

          The Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA) is forging ahead on the Queen Elizabeth (QE) Class, having recently made contract awards worth £325 million that will drive momentum into the ongoing build of HMS Queen Elizabeth.

          On 14 January, Secretary of State for Scotland, Jim Murphy MP visited Govan to welcome the contracts which have been placed in Scotland. Following the visit, he said:

          "These contract awards are great news for Glasgow, the Scottish economy and Scottish jobs. There has never been any doubt how important the aircraft carriers are to Scotland as a multibillion pound project securing thousands of jobs."

          The contracts have been awarded to five new suppliers to the Queen Elizabeth (QE) Class Aircraft Carrier Programme and will provide a number of vital services and parts for the ships, including fire fighting equipment and the transportation for the massive super blocks from the build yards across the UK to Rosyth for final assembly.

          The award of these contracts by the Alliance is a clear indication of the progress that is being made on the QE Class programme and the momentum achieved in 2009. In total, the Alliance is expected to award around £1.5 billion of contracts across the programme.

          Minister for Defence Equipment and Support Quentin Davies said:

          "This news should reassure those who doubt this Government's commitment to the programme. These sub-contracts will contribute thousands of jobs throughout the supply chain in addition to the thousands of jobs at the main shipyards which are building the ships.

          "The build phase of the Carrier programme is now well under way. The first units have already been delivered to Rosyth where these ships - the cornerstone of the Royal Navy of the future - will be assembled."

          The innovative ACA is a single integrated team formed from Babcock, BAE Systems, Thales UK and the MOD (which acts as both partner and client). It is responsible for delivering the Queen Elizabeth Class ships to time and cost.

          The contract to build the two new Aircraft Carriers for the Royal Navy was signed on 3rd July 2008. The carriers will be the biggest and most powerful surface warships ever constructed for the UK and represent a step change in Joint Capability. They will enable the delivery of increased strategic effect and influence around the world, at a time and place of the UK's choosing, and will be a key component of the improved expeditionary capabilities needed to confront the diverse range of threats in today's security environment.

            REGRESA EL ARK ROYAL COMO BUQUE INSIGNIA DE LA MARINA REAL BRITANICA
            Categoria: Marina - 26-01-2010 09:11

            El portaviones de ataque HMS Ark Royal regresó como buque insignia de la flota británica después de finalizar las pruebas de mar. El buque de guerra basado en Portsmouth asumirá el control que hasta este momento lo tenía su nave hermana el HMS Ilustrius, después de siete meses de probar sus armas y los sistemas de comunicaciones que le fueron reinstalados. La nave también fue pasó seis semanas de entrenamiento operacional básico en el mar cercano a la costa oeste y sur del país. De esta manera el HMS Ark Royal se convierte en el portaviones de ataque del Reino Unido, operando el ala naval de ataque con aviones Harrier. El HMS Ark Royal había sido sacudida por tres incendios en sus cuartos de maquina durante el período de prueba lejos de Portsmouth, incluyendo unas horas después de que fuera reinstalada. Después de abril próximo la nave dirigirá un ejercicio de entrenamiento multinacional conjunto denominado Joint Warrior que se llevará a cabo cerca de Escocia.
