Hurricane-Battered F-22s Are Now Flying Out of Michael's Aftermath
The Raptors are survivors of one of the worst hurricanes in history.
The U.S. Air Force has released photos of F-22 Raptor jets that were caught in a hurricane. All 17 Raptors stuck on the ground at Tyndall Air Force Base not only survived the virtual destruction of the base but were brought back up to airworthy condition within days.

The storm also hit Tyndall Air Force Base, home to nearly a third of the Air Force’s F-22 Raptor fleet, particularly hard. The base was rendered completely inoperable, although the Trump administration and the U.S. Air Force are determined to rebuild. The base was able to fly out approximately two thirds of the 55 F-22 Raptor fighter jets stationed there, but 17 were down for repairs and could not be made flyable.

As it turns out, despite severe damage to the hangars that sheltered them, all of the jets survived the hurricane in relatively good condition. The F-22 is tough, after all. Nearly a month later, all of the Raptors are slated to leave the base—on their own power.
