Encontre un articulo en Internet sobre la ayuda que la Fuerza Aerea Brasileña (FAB) nos dio el año 2003 (para rescatar a los rehenes de Techint).
En resumen:
En menos de una hora, un avion R-99B brasileño pudo detectar exactamente la posicion de una columna terrorista en la selva… (rastreando sus comunicaciones de radio)
Seguramente muchos militares peruanos ya habran notado que util seria tener algunos R-99B operando en el EP y/o FAP.
Para las FFAA peruanas, ademas de ser de gran ayuda para la lucha antiterrorista; en caso de guerra imaginen lo que podria hacer un R-99B en el aire, y varias baterias de obuses autopropulsados + lanzacohetes multiples en tierra.
Segundos despues que una posicion enemiga se detecte con exactitud, ésta podria ser barrida con cientos de granadas de artilleria.
actualmente, no tenemos suficientes obuses autopropulsados (creo que solo 12 obuses M109?) ni ningun medio efectivo para explotar el alcance maximo de estas piezas de artilleria...
por eso, es bastante raro que no nos hayamos enterado de ningun plan del EP de querer contar con aviones ELINT (Electronic Inteligence - como el R-99B) y mas obuses autopropulsados (M109?) y mas lanzacohetes multiples (BM-21?, Smerch?) .

Exatamente às 20:40h da segunda-feira 9 de junho de 2003, oito militares da Força Aérea Brasileira embarcaram no jato Embraer 145 RS/AGS, designado R-99B na FAB, pertencente ao 6º GAv, na Base Aérea de Anápolis(GO), com destino a Porto Velho(RO). Era uma missão secreta e os tripulantes não sabiam para onde iriam nem por que estavam voando. Às 23:40h, o avião pousou, reabasteceu e só voltou a decolar às 6:10h da terça-feira dia 10. Três horas e quarenta minutos depois, aterrissaria na área restrita para uso militar do Aeroporto Internacional de Lima, no Peru. Os militares brasileiros foram recebidos por oficiais da Força Aérea Peruana(FAP) e só então souberam o objetivo de sua missão. Os peruanos explicaram que 71 funcionários da Techint, uma empresa argentina que está construindo um gasoduto na reggião de Ayacucho, eram mantidos como reféns, em plena floresta amazônica, por militantes do Sendero Luminoso, grupo terrorista de orientação maoísta. Entre os reféns estavam três suboficiais da Polícia Nacional e o governo conduzia as negociações. Os terroristas exigiam dinamite, armas e um resgate de US$ 200 mil para libertar o grupo. O objetivo dos militares da FAB era rastrear toda a região de floresta, procurando interceptar transmissões de rádio e celulares via satélite feitas pelos terroristas para tentar localizar sua posição exata. O R-99B está preparado para efetuar sensoreamento remoto de grandes extensões de terreno, dotado de equipamentos de última geração, que podem operar sob quaisquer condições climáticas, em proveito do SIVAM. Para fazer o rastreamento de ondas de transmissão ou monitorar toda a movimentação no solo, conta com Radar de Abertura Sintética (SAR), Scanner Hiperespectral (HSS), Scanner Multiespectral (MSS) e Sensor Ótico e Infravermelho (OIS). Sobrevoando a floresta, os sensores do R-99B captaram sinais de transmissões de rádio na faixa de VHF. Cada emissão registrada era plotada, mapeando a posição. Em menos de uma hora foi possível identificar com precisão o ponto de onde elas estavam vindo: um acampamento num lugarejo chamado Toccate. Imediatamente as coordenadas geográficas do lugar foram enviadas aos militares peruanos em terra. Logo helicópteros e aviões da FAP passaram a rondar o esconderijo dos terroristas. Percebendo que haviam sido localizados e temendo uma investida do Exército, os militantes do Sendero adotaram a estratégia de libertar os reféns um a um, informando através do rádio o nome de cada um dos liberados. Após entregar o último capturado, os terroristas se dividiram em pequenos grupos e fugiram pelas trilhas da selva densa.
