Welcome to the 5th OPV & Surface Combatants Latin America conference
The 2016 conference will take place in Lima, Peru, with the support of Admiral Edmundo Deville del Campo- Commander of the Peruvian Navy.
We are delighted to be hosted by the Peruvian Navy who are committed to a number of major surface fleet programmes including frigate modernisation, construction of two Multipurpose ships (LPD), construction of a new Maritime Patrol Craft and the concept development of an entirely new frigate.
The AGUIRRE and CARVAJAL frigates are being modernised, including fitting of the Selex ES KRONOS 3D radar and MBDA EXOCET Block-3 missiles, Rheinmetall MASS decoy launchers, and a new ESM to the AGUIRRE-class (2 units already upgraded and 2 to follow). Two of the CARVAJAL-class have had the flight deck extended to operate Sea King helicopters and will receive new ESM, a new VARAYOC locally designed command system, and EXOCET Block-3 missiles. So there will be plenty talk about with our hosts!
Beyond this, the conference welcomes acquisition, capability development, R&D, engineering and operational Naval staff from across the continent to discuss the region's most pressing issues in surface vessel design and delivery. Over the past 4 years in Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador, systems design, programme management and capability development have proved to be the community's number one priorities and we look forward to reopening the discussion around these items in Lima in June.
On Saturday 2nd July the Peruvian Navy will also organise a maritime interdiction exercise for conference attendees to observe. If you would like to know more, please enquire
