Admiral Edmundo Luis Enrique Deville Del Campo, commander of the Peruvian Navy, visited Mexico from 30 March to 2 April, meeting with Admiral Vidal Francisco Soberon Sanz, secretary of the Mexican Navy (SEMAR), and signing an agreement to promote naval co-operation.
The agreement states that vessels from the two nations can now dock in each other's ports if they require supplies or assistance. The precedent for this decision was set in November 2015 when Mexican ocean patrol vessel ARM Prieto had to dock in Peru's Callao port for supplies.
During his trip, the Adm Deville visited the Mexican Naval Intelligence Unit's headquarters, the navy's general hospital, and its search-and-rescue training centre.
